so the other day i got nominated for the ALS ice bucket challenge ......
So i did the challenge, uploaded it on facebook and instagram and donated!
So what is ALS?
*This piece of information comes from the ALS association website*
"Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease," is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed."
So basically it is a disease that affects the spinal cord and slowly paralyzes the body and eventually leads to death. There is no known cure.
The reason behind the ice and the bucket is because when your body becomes numb from the cold water it feels similiar to how people with ALS may feel. Because of this idea it has become viral.
I think it's important for people to actually know the reasons behind the idea rather than just doing it without really understanding ya get meh??
anywho
